Seven-day free trial
A new verified adult account receives a 7-day free trial. No payment card is required to start the trial. The trial begins after successful email verification.
When the trial ends
The account remains active and the user can still sign in. Saved account-level learning progress remains retained and can be viewed in read-only form.
Automatic renewal
Once a user chooses a paid plan and completes checkout, the subscription renews automatically at the selected billing frequency until cancelled.
Cancellation
Cancellation stops future renewal and the user retains paid access until the end of the current paid billing period.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account, starting a trial, purchasing a subscription or otherwise using the Service, the adult account holder agrees to these Terms and acknowledges the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. Adult-owned accounts
Phase 1A accounts are created and controlled by an adult parent, guardian, tutor or other authorized adult. Children/learners do not create separate accounts. The account holder is responsible for account activity, for keeping credentials secure, and for authorizing learner use.
3. Educational purpose
Speaktionary is an educational support tool intended to assist vocabulary, pronunciation and learning practice. It is not a school, accredited educational institution, diagnostic service, medical service or substitute for professional educational assessment. Results and pronunciation scoring are learning aids and may not be error-free.
4. Licence to use the Service
Subject to these Terms and any applicable subscription, Speaktionary grants the account holder a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Service for personal/family/tutoring learning purposes. No ownership rights in the Service or its content are transferred.
5. Acceptable use
Users must not misuse the Service, attempt unauthorized access, interfere with security, scrape or copy the Service at scale, reverse engineer where prohibited, use the Service to violate law or third-party rights, or use automated means that materially burden the platform. Account sharing beyond ordinary household/tutoring use may be restricted if it creates misuse, security or licensing concerns.
6. Content and intellectual property
Speaktionary and its licensors own or license the software, design, characters, branding, learning content, graphics, audio output and other materials in the Service, except where third-party rights are identified. “Ollie” and related branding/content may only be used as authorized by Speaktionary. Third-party dictionary, image, audio and other content may be subject to separate provider rights.
7. User submissions
If a user submits a support message, word report, correction or feedback, the user grants Speaktionary permission to use that submission as reasonably necessary to operate, improve and support the Service. Do not submit confidential or unlawful material through general feedback features.
8. Third-party services
The Service relies on third-party platforms and APIs, which may include payment, email, speech, text-to-speech, dictionary, infrastructure and content providers. Availability or performance of those services may affect Speaktionary. Third-party services may also have their own terms and privacy practices.
9. Availability and changes
We may maintain, update, modify or temporarily suspend portions of the Service for security, reliability, maintenance or improvement. Where practicable, we will minimize disruption to active users. Features may evolve during the B2C launch and later compliance/institutional phases.
10. Account suspension or termination
We may suspend or terminate access where reasonably necessary for security, fraud, serious misuse, non-payment, violation of these Terms or legal requirements. Where appropriate, we will provide notice and an opportunity to resolve the issue.
11. Disclaimer
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided on an “as available” basis. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, that all content or pronunciation results are error-free, or that the Service will meet every user’s individual learning needs. Nothing in these Terms excludes rights or warranties that cannot lawfully be excluded.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Speaktionary will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss arising from use of the Service. Any limitation applies subject to mandatory consumer-protection rights and other rights that cannot be waived by contract.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without limiting any mandatory consumer rights that apply based on the user’s location.
14. Subscription, Trial, Billing & Cancellation Terms
These terms supplement the Terms of Use and apply to paid Speaktionary subscriptions.
15. Seven-day free trial
A new verified adult account receives a 7-day free trial. No payment card is required to start the trial. The trial begins after successful email verification. One trial is permitted per account/email.
16. What happens when the trial ends
If the account does not have an active paid subscription when the trial ends, the account moves to a soft-lock state:
- The account remains active and the user can still sign in.
- Saved account-level learning progress remains retained and can be viewed in read-only form.
- Account/settings and public website pages remain available.
- Premium learning activities are restricted and display a clear “Subscribe to Continue” message.
- If the user subscribes later, premium learning access is restored and prior progress remains available, subject to the retention policy.
17. Plans and prices
| Plan | Price | Billing frequency | Access |
|---|---|---|---|
| School plan | CAD $99.00 | per year | Full Phase 1A premium learning access |
| 30-Day Plan | CAD $4.99 | per 30 days | Full Phase 1A premium learning access |
| Annual Plan | CAD $39.99 | per year | Full Phase 1A premium learning access |
Applicable taxes may be added where required. Final checkout must display the total charge, currency, billing frequency, renewal terms and any applicable tax before the user confirms purchase.
All prices are in Canadian dollars (CAD).
What a subscription includes: full access to the Speaktionary learning application for one adult-owned account: the bilingual English and French picture dictionary with voice search, spoken pronunciation, child-friendly definitions and pictures; homophones, homonyms, synonyms, antonyms, related words and multiple meanings; sight words; Ontario curriculum vocabulary units for Grades 1 to 6; Quiz Me practice; and the Progress page. Both plans include the same features; only the billing period differs.
18. Paid subscription and automatic renewal
Once a user chooses a paid plan and completes checkout, the subscription renews automatically at the selected billing frequency until cancelled, unless the checkout clearly states otherwise. The user authorizes the payment processor to charge the payment method for each renewal. Speaktionary should send a written/electronic confirmation of the subscription and provide access to the subscription terms.
19. Cancellation
A user may cancel a subscription through the account/subscription area or another clearly identified support method. Unless required otherwise by law or expressly stated at checkout, cancellation stops future renewal and the user retains paid access until the end of the current paid billing period. The account and saved progress may remain available after cancellation under the soft-lock model.
To cancel: sign in, open Subscription and choose Cancel plan.
20. Refunds
Subscription charges are generally non-refundable once the paid billing period begins, except where required by applicable law or where Speaktionary chooses to provide a refund or credit.
Where a refund is approved, it is returned to the original payment method. Card refunds usually appear on the statement within 5 to 10 business days, depending on the card issuer. If we charged you by mistake, or charged you twice, we will refund the incorrect charge.
21. Price changes
Speaktionary may change subscription prices prospectively. Existing subscribers should receive reasonable advance notice of a material price change before the changed price applies to a renewal, and may cancel before the next renewal if they do not accept the change, subject to applicable law.
22. Payment processing
Payments are processed by Stripe or another approved payment processor. Speaktionary should not directly store full card numbers. Payment-provider terms and privacy practices may also apply.
23. Delivery of the service
Speaktionary is a digital service delivered online. Premium learning access is switched on for your account as soon as the payment processor confirms your payment, normally within a few seconds, and you use it by signing in at speaktionary.ca in a supported web browser. Nothing is shipped, and there is nothing to return; refunds are handled under section 20 (Refunds).
24. Customer service
For help with your account, a payment or a subscription, email info@speaktionary.ca or use the contact form at speaktionary.ca/contact. We aim to reply within 5 business days.
25. Availability and restrictions
Speaktionary is offered to adults in Canada and priced in Canadian dollars; it may be used from other countries where the website is reachable. As a digital service it is not subject to export restrictions. Taxes, where applicable, follow the billing address given at checkout.
26. Payment security
Payments are taken on Stripe’s own secure payment page. Card details go directly to Stripe and are never entered on, seen by or stored by Speaktionary. Stripe is certified to PCI DSS Level 1. Every page of the service uses HTTPS. The card brands accepted are shown on the payment page.
